Pursuit of happyness...the Real life version. You can definitely search the net for all about him, but what struck me the most is the following:

-Christopher Gardner was raped
by a man who was a member of a gang of thieves in his neighborhood. Years later, when he met the man again, he struck the man with a cinder block and walked away.

-He was abused throughout his childhood by his step father.
When he was about 6, he says, his mother tried to burn down the house with his stepfather in it. She went to state prison for four years, and he was shuffled among relatives and foster homes. He saw his real father only twice: when he was a father himself, at age 28, and at his father's funeral.

-He then decided he will never be like his step father, or his real father. Thats the reason he didn't leave his son when his girlfriend dumped him altogether.

-In 1983, at 28-29 years old, he spent nights crashed at a homeless shelter with his son -- and that was on the good nights during his internship with Dean Witter Reynolds. On others, he says, he and his son would crash at flophouses or hole up in a far corner of Union Square. Bathing was often done in the sinks of public bathrooms. For meals, Gardner brought his son, then a toddler, to the soup kitchen at Glide Memorial Church.

-At one point, he was saved by prostitute who gave him 5 dollar bills after seeing him and his son wander at night for places to stay.

-
The most important thing Chris ever heard from his son in his life when he says, ‘Papa, you're a good papa,’ when the son was still only 2 years old.

-To him, place-ism is more challenging than racism. "I'm not from a politically connected family. I hadn't gone to college. I had no money of my own. Who's going to do business with you? That's place-ism, that's not racism. That's the biggest ‘ism’ I had to deal with and that's an ‘ism’ that can affect anybody in this room. The racism thing was secondary. My love for what I had an opportunity to do, and my love for my child, and my commitment minimized everything else."

-Now, in 2006, he is marrying the woman of his dreams, whom he first met on a BART train 23 years ago.

-He finally found his "father", Nelson Mandela, when the man said "
Welcome home, son." and shook his hand. For the first time in my life, for a man ever to say the words to me, ‘Welcome home, son,’ and for it to be Nelson Mandela, he cried.

-Christopher Gardner has started an international mission designed to create economic opportunities in South Africa, with asset under management close to 1 billion US.

-Christopher Gardner doesn't see his as a rags-to-riches story. What he hopes people come away with is that life is full of possibility if you put your heart into it and don't give up

A surveillance video recording for an apparent murder near a hip-hop club, it has been uploaded to youtube since its target witness are in their late teens and its only natural for the Police to start using the power of Web 2.0.

When you think about all the hand held cell phones....you got the idea. You have so many big-brother now!

I am barely hanging on with my life right now.
After all the mess this year with my love, career, family in crsis, I actually felt good.

I feel good, because I know I am enjoying the suffering.

I enjoy the ansomia. I enjoy the lonely nights sitting in the office, staring at the screen for hours till dawn.
I enjoy the feeling of being betrayed after nearly 30 years of struggling against abuse. I enjoy the abuse I inflicted to others.
I enjoy the unbearable feeling of ...nothingness... of ...sadness... of ...rampaging rush of rage.

I believe I know what Franz Kafka(1883 - 1924) wrote:

"I have the true feeling of myself only when I am unbearably unhappy."

Yes. This is a feeling I have back in University. And I was writing a good amount of stories. I want to go back.

Never Forget - A day in June, 1989

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
-George Santayana(1863 - 1952)

Back in 1989, I was still a young kid. I remembered those days when I would walk with my parents on the street for nearly 3 consecutive weekends.

I will never forget when I yell "Li Peng!" and the crowd around me just responded in full, "GO DOWN!". "Li Peng!""GO DOWN!" "Li Peng!""GO DOWN!" "Li Peng!""GO DOWN!"...and I was a Grade 5 student.

I will never forget the tears all over my parents and uncle's face when it happened. It was not normal at all. I know it even when I was small.

I learned about the term Diaspora a few years later. To a lot of the middle class in HK, this is the start of our HK's people diaspora. To Australia, to Britain, to Canada, to everywhere else in this world...

Yet, after all these years, Capitalism prevails. Money prevails.

No one raelly care about this anymore...and its really said, because those who once cared about it...have to submit in reality...which is...we are not ready for a healty political system based on a conscience society yet...

I scienrely hope that we can one day see a healthy Chinese government appears. The one that respect human rights, the one that gives their people the right to dream, to speak freely, to have freedom of choice...

It will come. One day.

...Never forget...

The Tank Man.

Meet the world

This is an magazine campaign call "Meet the World" from GRANDE REPORTAGEM MAGAZINE "FLAGS" CAMPAIGN. The message is shocking and provoking.

The creator, Icaro Doria is Brazilian, 25 and has been working for the magazine Grande Reportagem, in Lisbon, Portugal, for the last 3 years. He is part of the team (with Luis Silva Dias, Joo Roque, Andrea Vallenti and Joo Roque) that produced the flags campaign which has been circulating the Earth in chain letters via e-mail. In his own words Icaro:

"The magazine Revista Grande Reportagem is a Hard Journalism magazine, on the same line as the Times. The idea was to bring across the concept that the magazine offers profound journalism about topics of real importance to the world of today.

This is how we thought of the concept Meet the World.

We started to research relevant, global, and current facts and, thus, came up with the idea to put new meanings to the colours of the flags. We used real data taken from the websites of Amnesty International and the UNO.

The campaign has been running in Portugal since January 2005. There are eight flags that portray very current topics like the division of opinions about the war in Iraq in the United States, the violence against women in Africa, the social inequality in Brazil, the drug trafficking in Columbia, Aids and malaria in Angola, etc.

With regards to the email presenting the campaign as being done by a Norwegian diplomat, this information is completely wrong. There is no Norwegian diplomat called Charung Gollar, there was no presentation in the UNO, and the campaign is not called The Power of the Stars. This was all invented and is going round the world via email.

Thats it, basically."

Makes you wonder...how "fair" and "wonderful" the world is...
